In October we celebrated the annual #LightsOnAfterschool campaign for the third time in South Africa. The global initiative which began in the U.S. aims to help raise awareness of the importance of After School Programmes (ASPs) and their tremendous impact on children’s lives.
Lights On After School is a global initiative that aims to help raise awareness of the importance of after school programs and their impact on children’s lives. The movement began more than 20 years ago in the US, led by the Afterschool Alliance. Today, it has grown into a global organization supported by tens of thousands of people and organizations around the world. This year’s Lights on theme focuses on mental health and academic support.
Raising the visibility of the sector, its value and impact, requires us to collectively build a common language to communicate its importance. Join us as we explore what advocacy can look like for the After School sector and outline the ways we can all participate in the global #LightsOnAfterschool activities this month!
Under the theme #helpingkidsrecover, this year the focus will be how non-profit after-school programmes (ASPs) are helping vulnerable children to recover what has been lost over the last 18 months of the pandemic.
