We are delighted to introduce Charlene Petersen Voss as the new Executive Director of The Learning Trust (TLT), effective from 1 September 2024.
Charlene brings an impressive track record in leading TLT’s special projects and a proven commitment to our mission, making her the ideal choice to guide our organisation into the future.
Since joining The Learning Trust in 2022, Charlene has led our special projects as part of the After School Catch-up Coalition. This collaborative initiative focuses on supporting children most affected by school closures, rotational timetables, and unemployment. The Coalition leverages public employment funding to increase human capacity in the after-school sector through after-school assistants.
As we prepare for our new strategy cycle, Charlene’s leadership will be essential in guiding us toward new opportunities and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our programmes. Her strategic fundraising and stakeholder engagement approach will undoubtedly strengthen our impact and extend our reach within the education sector, and create more employment opportunities for youth.
Charlene steps into the role previously held by Sibongile Khumalo, who has been a driving force at The Learning Trust since 2019. Sibongile’s tenure was marked by significant strides in expanding our reach within the after-school sector in South Africa, and her legacy promises to further amplify the sector’s impact.
Looking forward, The Learning Trust is poised for even greater influence. Our focus remains on the systemic impact and financial sustainability of after-school education.
Charlene will be supported by a strong team, a dedicated board, committed funders, and an enabling organizational culture as she transitions into her new role. We are confident that Charlene’s appointment will bring renewed energy and perspective to our work, and we eagerly anticipate the exciting developments and successes that lie ahead under her leadership.
